प्राचीं होत्रे ददौ राजा दिशं स्वकुलवर्धनः ।
अध्वर्यवे प्रतीचीं तु ब्रह्मणे दक्षिणां दिशम् ॥

अन्वयः

स्वकुलवर्धन: promoter of his dynasty, राजा Dasaratha, होत्रे to Hotar, प्राचीं दिशम् easten region, ददौ gave, अध्वर्यवे to Adhvaryu, प्रतीचीम् western side, ब्रह्मणे to Brahma, दक्षिणां दिशम् southern region, तथा and, उद्गात्रे to Udgata, उदीचीम् northern region, पुरा long ago, स्वयम्भूविहिते prescribed by Brahma, हयमेधे महायज्ञे in the mighty horsesacrifice, एषा this, दक्षिणा offering, विनिर्मिता is fixed.

And in this mighty horse-sacrifice founded of yore by Svayambhū, that perpetuator of his line, the king, bestowed the Eastern quarter on his chief sacrificial priest, the Western on his Adhvaryu, the Southern on Brahmă, and the Northern on the Udgātā, as Daksinās.

Summary

In order to promote his dynasty, king Dasaratha gave away eastern region to Hotar, western region to Adhvaryu, southern region to Brahma and northern region to Udgata. These offerings were made in accordance with theprescriptions by Brahma long all.
