स भूमिपालो विलपन्ननाथव;त्स्त्रिया गृहीतो हृदयेऽतिमात्रता ।
पपात देव्याश्चरणौ प्रसारिता;वुभावसंस्पृश्य यथातुरस्तथा ॥

अन्वयः

अतिमात्रया exceeding the limit of respect, स्त्रिया by a woman, हृदये in the heart, गृहीतः having grasped, सः that, भूमिपालः king, अनाथवत् like an orphan, विलपन् wailing, प्रसारितौ stretched apart, देव्याः the queens, चरणौ both feet, असम्स्पृश्य (असम्प्राप्य) without touching (without reaching), आतुरः sick, यथा as, तथा so, पपात fell down.

As bewailing thus like one forlorn the ruler of earth whose heart was captivated by Kaikeyi on account of her supreme beauty proceeded to take hold of her feet, who having banished all self respect, sat with her legs stretched, he, without being able to come at them, fell down in a swoon, like one enfeebled with disease.

Summary

The king, with his heart in the grip of a woman, wailing like an orphan tried to reach her feet, exceeding the limit of selfrespect but, unable to touch them as she pulled them apart, he collapsed like a sick man.इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीय आदिकाव्ये अयोध्याकाण्डे द्वादशस्सर्गः॥Thus ends the twelfth sarga of Ayodhyakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
