तमुवाच ततो गङ्गा सर्वदेवपुरोहितम् ।
अशक्ता धारणे देव तव तेजः समुद्धतम् ।
दह्यमानाग्निना तेन संप्रव्यथितचेतना ॥

अन्वयः

तत: then, गङ्गा Ganga, सर्वदेवपुरोहितम् (Fire) who was standing ahead of all devatas, तम् addressing the firedeity, उवाच spoke, देव O God of fire, समुद्धतम् everincreasing, तव your, तेज: splendour, धारणे to hold, अशक्ता incapable, तेन अग्निना by firedeity (by that vital fluid), दह्यमाना being burnt, सम्प्रव्यथितचेतना I have greatly distressed consciousness.

O descendant of Raghu. And to him staying at the head of all the deities, Gangā spoke, saying, "O god, I am incapable of sustaining this new sprung energy of yours: I am burning with that fire, and my consciousness fails me.

Summary

Ganga addressing the Firegod standing ahead of all the devatas said 'O god of fire, I am incapable of holding your everincreasing splendour. The fiery fluid is burning me. My consciousness is overwhelmed'.
