२.८४.६

ताभ्यामर्घ्यं च पाद्यं च दत्त्वा पश्चात्फलानि च ।
आनुपूर्व्याच्च धर्मज्ञः पप्रच्छ कुशलं कुले ॥

अन्वयः

धर्मज्ञः knower of righteous ways (Bharadwaja), आनुपूर्व्यात् in order, ताभ्याम् to both of them, अर्घ्यं च welcomeoffering, पाद्यं च water for washing feet, पश्चात् thereafter, फलानि च fruits, दत्वा having given, कुले in the family, कुशलम् welfare, पप्रच्छ enquired.

Having offered them (the guests) water to wash their feet and Arghya, as well as fruits subsequently, that virtuous one (Bharadvāja) successively enquired after the welfare of their (respective) homes; and after that, of the forces, exchequer, friends and counsellors in Ayodhyā. And knowing that Dasaratha had departed this life, he did not ask anything relating to the monarch.

Summary

Offering them both in order arghya (welcomeoffering), water to wash their feet and fruits in accordance with the practice, he enquired Bharata about the welfare of the family.
