अन्वयः

दृष्ट्वैव as soon as he saw, आर्तः anguished, बाष्पसन्दिग्धया choked with tears, गिरा with words, विललाप lamented, धैर्यात् with courage, धारयितुम् to restrain, अशक्नुवन् being unable, वचनम् these words, अब्रवीत् said.

And soon as Bharata saw Rāma, he, exceedingly distressed, broke out into lamentations in words choked with sorrow. And incapable of holding himself in patience, he said.
