अन्वयः

ततः then, वीरः hero, अनुत्तमम् very great, मणिरत्नम् jewel, प्रतिगृह्य after taking, अङ्गुल्या on his finger, योजयामास placed अस्य to his, भुजः arm, न प्राभवत् हि was not fitting.

Then taking that best of gems, the hero tried to fix it on this finger, but it did not enter into it. (Another meaning is, “But fearing discovery on account of the brilliance of the jewel, he desisted").
