पुत्रशोकार्दितं पापा विसंज्ञं पतितं भुवि ।
विवेष्टमानमुदीक्ष्य सैक्ष्वाकमिदमब्रवीत् ॥

आहुः सत्यं हि परमं धर्मं धर्मविदो जनाः ।
सत्यमाश्रित्य हि मया त्वं च धर्मं प्रचोदितः ॥

Summary AI "Men who know righteousness declare truth to be the supreme virtue. Relying on that very truth, I have urged you toward your duty."

M N Dutt Truth, say persons cognizant of it, is the prime virtue. And it is in the interests of virtue, that I have been exhorting you.

उवाच परुषं वाक्यं वाक्यज्ञा रोषमूर्छिता ॥

Summary AI Then Kaikeyī, of sinful conduct, skilled in speech and overwhelmed with anger, again spoke harsh words to the King.

किमिदं भाषसे राजन्वाक्यं गररुजोपमम् ।
आनाययितुमक्लिष्टं पुत्रं राममिहार्हसि ॥

धर्मबन्धेन बद्धोऽस्मि नष्टा च मम चेतना ।

ततः स राजा तं सूतं सन्नहर्षः सुतं प्रति ।
शोकारक्तेक्षणः श्रीमानुद्वीक्ष्योवाच धार्मिकः ॥

Summary AI Then the glorious and righteous King, his joy regarding his son vanished and his eyes bloodshot with grief, looked up at the charioteer and spoke.

Summary AI "Sumantra! I wish to see the handsome Rāma; bring him quickly." Believing it to be an auspicious event, Sumantra rejoiced in his heart.

M N Dutt Sumantra, Bring the beautiful Răma here, I want to see him. Thinking that some good would accrue to Rāma, he was pleased at heart and away he went speedily delighted at the royal mandate. Being asked again by Kaikeyi to hurry on at the time of departure Sumantra thought within himself.

सुमन्त्रश्चिन्तयामास त्वरितं चोदितस्तया ।
व्यक्तं रामोऽभिषेकार्थमिहायास्यति धर्मवित् ॥

Summary AI Urged quickly by her (Kaikeyī), Sumantra thought: "Clearly, the righteous Rāma, who knows the dharma, will come here for the sake of his consecration."

२.१२.२३

इति सूतो मतिं कृत्वा हर्षेण महता पुनः ।
निर्जगाम महातेजा राघवस्य दिदृक्षया ॥

Summary AI Having formed this conclusion, the highly effulgent charioteer set out again with great joy, eager to see Rāghava.

ततः पुरस्तात्सहसा विनिर्गतो
महीपतीन्द्वारगतान्विलोकयन् ।
ददर्श पौरान्विविधान्महाधना
नुपस्थितान्द्वारमुपेत्य विष्ठितान् ॥

Summary AI Then, emerging suddenly from the front and observing the kings gathered at the gateway, he saw various wealthy citizens who had arrived and were waiting near the entrance.
